Follow these steps to configure UpShip and optimize your shipping process:

1. Account Setup

  • Enter your Client ID, Client Secret, UPS account number, and the country where your UPS account was created.
  • Enable Test Mode to preview shipping rates without charges on your UPS invoices.
  • Ensure that Carrier Calculated Shipping Rates are enabled in Shopify.

2. Packaging Setup

  • Add unlimited custom packages in addition to default UPS options.
  • Name each package and set specific dimensions (length, width, height, weight).
  • Select a default checkout package, which will be used for shipping rate calculations at checkout.

Note: The selected package at checkout affects estimated rates, but actual shipping costs depend on the selected package when processing the order.

3. Insurance Preferences

Choose from:

  • Included Coverage: Up to $100 USD per package (default by UPS).
  • Full Order Coverage: Insure shipments based on total order value.
  • Custom Coverage: Set a higher coverage amount per shipment.

4. Shipping Label Customization

  • Modify the sender’s name and add required shipping label details based on country regulations.
  • Overwrite the default shipping address if necessary.

5. Order Management

  • Syncs all UPS orders in the Orders section within the app.
  • View detailed order information, similar to Shopify’s order management.
  • Choose the appropriate packaging and quantity before generating the label.
  • Generate invoices with translations for customs requirements in Latin America.

6. Shopify Shipping Settings

  • Go to Settings > Shipping and Delivery in Shopify.
  • Add UpShip as a shipping option for the regions where you intend to ship.

How to Retrieve UPS Credentials

To successfully connect your UPS account to UpShip, follow these steps to obtain your API credentials:

1. Create a UPS.com User Account

  1. Go to the UPS website for your country.
  2. Click on “Sign Up” and fill out the required details.
  3. Save your credentials securely as they will be used later in the setup process.

2. Link Your UPS Account

  1. Log in to your newly created UPS.com account.
  2. Click on your profile and select “Add an Existing Account”.
  3. Provide the necessary details, including: UPS account number, nickname for the account, and billing ZIP code.
  4. Select “Set as Default Payment Method” and verify via email with a PIN code.

3. Request API Access

  1. Navigate to the UPS Developer Portal for your region.
  2. Click on “My Apps”, then select “Add Application”.
  3. Choose the option to integrate UPS services with your business.
  4. Fill out the required fields, including: Company details, and admin contact information.
  5. Select the necessary APIs required for your store: Rating, Authorization (OAuth), and Time In Transit.

4. Obtain Your API Keys

  1. After submitting the application, UPS will generate your Client ID and Client Secret.
  2. Store these credentials securely, as they will be needed to connect your account in UpShip.

How can I activate Carrier-Calculated Shipping Rates in Shopify?

Carrier-Calculated Shipping Rates are required for UpShip to function. Here‘s how to enable them:

  1. Shopify Advanced Plan or Higher: If you’re on the Shopify Advanced plan or Shopify Plus, Carrier-Calculated Shipping Rates are included.
  2. Shopify Basic or Regular Plan: You can request Carrier-Calculated Shipping Rates to be added for an additional $20/month, or have it included for free if you pay your Shopify subscription annually.
  3. Contact Shopify support to enable the feature if it isn’t already active.

Can I use custom packaging with UpShip?

Yes! UpShip allows you to configure custom packaging. You can:

  • Add custom package dimensions (length, width, height, and weight).
  • Set a default packaging option for checkout rate calculations.

The shipping cost at checkout will use the default packaging dimensions, but the actual shipping cost depends on the packaging selected when processing the order.

Does UpShip support regions outside of Puerto Rico?

Yes! UpShip supports UPS accounts in Puerto Rico and Latin American countries. As long as UPS provides services in your region, you can use UpShip for shipping.

How does insurance work in UpShip?

UpShip provides three insurance coverage options:

  • Included Coverage: Up to $100 USD per package, provided by UPS at no additional cost.
  • Full Order Coverage: Insures the full value of the order.
  • Custom Coverage: Allows you to set an insurance value higher than $100 USD for each shipment.

You can configure your preferred insurance option in the app settings.

Can I test shipping rates without charging my UPS account?
